Ask me all about what I am thankful for! During our reading mini lesson we read the text Thanksgiving is For Giving Thanks. We discussed how Thanksgiving isn't just for a delicious dinner and treats, but is for giving thanks for all the great people and things we have in our lives. We learned in the text all of the things and people the character was thankful for then shared some things that we were thankful for. Today was also an extra special day because we had some grandparents and special people come visit our classroom. We enjoyed having these special people see our classroom and share all of our learning that we have done so far! We even were able to make turkeys with thankful feathers with them! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Ask me all about life stories! Today we wrapped up our narrative writing unit and celebrated all our hard work. We took the time to share the many different things that we learned about writing a life story and were shocked by how much we knew! We learned how to use a handy dandy pencil, use at least 5 different realistic colors, stretch out our words, among many other things! We also were so excited to empty out all our life stories and bring them home to share with you!
Ask me all about the word proud! During morning meeting we talked about the word proud. We had a "visit" from our Sesame friends to learn a little bit more about this important word. We learned that proud means to feel really good about something that we or someone else does. We shared some things that we have felt proud of before and discussed how we should feel proud of the work we do in school! We love feeling proud!
Ask me all about the word compare! In Math we have been working very hard to measure the length of different objects using either connecting cubes or craft sticks. Today we watched a Sesame Street video on the word compare. We learned that it means to look at two or more objects and describe how they are the same or different. Then we took a look at some of the feet that we have been measuring over the past few days and compared them. We even were able to put them in order from shortest to longest!
Ask me all about the new tool that I used to measure today! Today we practiced measuring the length of a paper strip using Popsicle sticks! We remembered to line up the end of the Popsicle stick with the end of the paper to find how long each strip was! It was challenging at first to work with our table mates and problem solve on how we could use this tool to measure, but we eventually figured it out! We even learned how to record our findings!
Ask me all about retelling. Today we continued to practice retelling a story. We went even further and whisper read The Big Cat and then retold the story to our partners. We worked really hard to put our words in a complete sentence and include all the important parts. "This story was about a big cat who does many things. He can hide, eat, and sleep." Whisper reading to ourselves, then retelling the story to one another!
Ask me all about the word measure. Today we learned more about measuring in math and practiced measuring our feet by using connecting cubes! We even watched a Sesame Street video to learn more about this word! We learned that measure means using a tool to find how long or how tall something is. It was very interesting to learn that you can use just about anything to measure!
Ask me what I am thankful for. Today we learned about the special word thankful. Thankful means that you are grateful or appreciate something or someone. We listed many things that we are thankful for like our family, bunk beds, our dogs, dads helping us, our brother. Our brains were filled with many things that we are thankful for. Then we were able to write about one thing we are thankful for. We also want to give a special thanks to our veterans! Today we also had a special visitor come and speak to Mrs. Mahar's, Miss Gleason's, and our class. We had a U.S. Coast Guard come in and share some great information with us. We learned what an important role the Coast Guard plays as one of our 5 branches in the military. We even received two coloring books and watched a short film on boating, beach, and water safety! Ask me all about the word of the day apology. Today we learned that an apology means to say sorry when we make a mistake, do something wrong, or hurt someone. We even were able to watch a Sesame Street video on this special word. We then turned to our partners and used our own words to explain what an apology is!
Ask me all about the veterans assembly! Today we had veterans come visit our school and we sang American Soldier to them to show our appreciation and thanks for all that they have done. We also were able to hear and see all the other grades put on their performances for the veterans. We especially enjoyed listening to our sixth grade buddies poems that they wrote. Thank you veterans!
