Ask me all about the small moment I zoomed in on! We read a book from the Little Critter series Just Saving My Money and discussed how this a life story, but is a big story. Within this big story are small moments that make up Little Critter saving is money. We enjoyed the book then decided to go back and make a list of all of the small moments. We can give you some examples: Little Critter's skateboard is broken, he feeds the dog and the food spills everywhere, he tries to empty the dishes but they end up falling on the floor and breaking. Then we watched as Miss Walker picked her favorite small moment from this story and wrote about it. We even had the opportunity to pick our favorite small moment from the book and write about it as well. We can't wait to begin writing our very own small moment stories!

Ask me all about using my imagination! We have been reading lots and lots of Magic Treehouse books this year. We decided it would be fun to use our imaginations and act out our current Magic Treehouse book. Ask me what I created for our Jack and Annie adventure to China! We absolutely love using our imagination and showing our understanding of the story. Ask me how I can grab a reader's attention in my writing! Today in writing we were challenged to grab our reader's attention by beginning our pieces with a question! We all shared out our topic that we wanted to convince people to go along with. Some of us decided to write about a pet everyone should have, a toy we think is the best, or a movie everyone should watch. Then we helped each other by creating a few example questions that could be used to catch our reader's attention: "Did you know Sky Landers are the best toy ever? Did you ever play with a yo-yo? Have you ever had a puppy?" We then were challenged to go to our seats and try this strategy on our own! Take a look and see how we did. Ask me about surveys! Today during Math workshop we learned what a survey is. We learned a survey is a question that you ask to collect data about something. We began by asking the class if we like applesauce and then recorded our classmates responses by using tally marks. It was so interesting to find out that the majority of our classmates enjoy applesauce. Then we even were able to complete a survey to find out what meal the class likes best: breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It was so much fun collecting data! Ask me all about the story Grow Flower, Grow! Today we read a wonderful story called Grow Flower, Grow. Our job was to be active listeners and determine the important story parts. After the story was over we were challenged to turn and talk with a partner about the 5 major story parts. We took turns sharing the characters, setting, problem, solution, and plot. We practiced taking turns, giving feedback, and respectfully listening as our partner shared. We would love to practice this strategy at home too! Read us a story then ask me to name the important story parts! Ask me all about the frog life cycle. Today in Science we learned all about frogs and their life cycle. We began by sharing out things we thought we knew about the frog life cycle and questions that we had. Then one of our classmates came up and taught us about the different stages! We were amazed by the different stages they go through. We even watched a Brainpop video on frogs and learned about the different types, where they live, and how they protect themselves from predators. Then we applied our learning and recreated the frog life cycle. Tomorrow we are going to observe real tadpoles and are so excited to watched them as they grow! Ask me all about comparing! This week we revisited that special word. We remembered that comparing means to describe what is the same and different about something. We compared our classmates, cars, shoes, and shapes. Not only were we able to compare objects but also then sorted them into groups based on these attributes! It was so much fun using our math talk with our partners to share out our comparisons. Ask me all about the Energized Guyz! We had special visitors to our school today to learn about energy and resources. They put on a performance for us and acted like superheroes! During this engaging performance we learned about how we can save our energy and resources. Nicki Neutron and Thunderstorm taught us about how if we use all of our non- renewable resources we won't have anymore! We can save up our resources and energy by turning off lights and appliances when we aren't using them among many other things! It's so important for us to be energy efficient! Ask me all about our special visitor! Today we had a lady visit our classroom and teach us all about bunnies! We learned about different types of bunnies and all about their different parts! We learned bunnies can have different types of ears lop ears and upright ears. We also learned that they can have red, blue, or brown eyes! Bunnies have very strong noses and can use them to find their lost food underground. Did you know that rabbits can use their tail to confuse predators? We also learned that baby rabbits are called kits! We even had chance to play with them! |
