Ask me all about Dr. Seuss! This week we used PebbleGo to learn all about Dr. Seuss. We learned that his real name is actually Theodore not Dr. Seuss! We also learned that he wrote 44 books and was so famous he earned a star in Hollywood! It was so interesting to learn about him and make the connection that he liked to read when he was little just like us! Then we read two of his books Hop on Pop and Green Eggs and Ham. We really enjoyed all the rhymes that were in the book and even were able to come up with other rhyming words! Thank you Dr. Seuss for your wonderful and enjoyable stories!

Ask me all about Zumba! Today we had a visitor come in and teach us all about Zumba. We learned Zumba is a way to exercise by dancing. We even were able to do some dances! It was so much fun! Ask me all about building teen numbers! Today we used an interactive spinner on the SmartBoard to choose a teen number. We worked with a partner to use bingo chips and ten frames to then build that teen number. We were very interested to notice that each time we built a teen number one whole ten frame was always filled. We even practiced teen numbers during stations with a game called build it teen numbers! We are still wondering why teen numbers always start with one? We can't wait to explore teen numbers more and try and answer this question! Ask me all about our brand new math game! Today we practiced adding and subtracting within 5. We reviewed what it means to add (put numbers together) and what it means to subtract (take numbers away/apart) before learning this new game. Then we were able to jump right in and begin this exciting new game! To play you choose a card, which has two numbers your add or two numbers you subtract and your job is to solve it. We used a ten frame to help us figure out the answer! Whatever the answer was, was the number of spaces we were able to move on the board. It was so much fun racing to get our teddy bears to the picnic! Ask me all about snow! In reading this week we shared things we thought we knew about snow, questions we had about snow, then things we had learned about snow. We knew that snow is white, cold, and it's fun to play with. We wondered, "Where snow came from, how is it made, why do we need it, and why does it come from the sky?" We then used PebbleGo (which is a great online resource to help learn about many different topics) to learn about snow and try and answer some of our questions. Boy were we shocked with all of the things we learned about snow! We learned that snow reflects the sunlight and helps to keep our Earth cool, we learned that snow is actually made up of ice crystals too!
Ask me all about what an introduction is! Today during Writing we learned the importance of having an introduction in your how-to books. An introduction is something that explains to the reader what your book is about or the thing your book is about. We wrote an introduction together for our class how-to make a peanut butter and jelly book. We shared out some ideas and decided that, "A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a delicious and easy to make sandwich with bread, peanut butter, and jelly." was the best introduction for our readers. Then we went to our seats and chose one of our how-to books to add an introduction to. We were so eager to share out our introductions to the group! Ask me all about our special celebration! Today we celebrated the 100th day of school! We started our day by sharing how much learning we have done within the last 100 days and were amazed. Some of us shared that we learned how to read, write how-to books and life stories, how to count to 100 by 1's and 10's! We then were visited by some very helpful parents do complete different hundred day centers! We counted by 10's to 100 using different food items to make a special trail mix! We counted by 10's to 100 in a special sticker book! We also made a special 100 day of school crown. Our favorite center was using fruit loops to count by 10's to 100 and making a tasty treat with them! We had so much fun today! Many of us said, "The 100th day of school is my favorite day!" Ask me all about my brand new how-to book! Today we brainstormed all of the different things we have learned so far during this school year. We were amazed by all the things we could actually teach someone about our classroom. Some of the ideas we came up with were: how-to get unpacked in the morning, how to pack-up at the end of the day, how to log on to Lexia, among many other great ideas. We also had a visit from the lowercase letter writing police! Ask me all about our guest reader! Today we had a special visitor today who read us a great story! We listened to the book I'm My Own Dog by David Ezra Stein. We really enjoyed listening to this story and discussing our own pets! Ask me about our two new Math station activities! Today we were introduced to two new activities that will help build our adding and number id skills! The first activity was added to our buddy station and is called Race to Trace! In this activity each partner uses two dice and rolls them. They then need to add their rolled number and find that number on their sheet and trace it! The next activity was added to our independent station bucket and is called Rainbow Math! At this activity we used two dice, rolled them, added our numbers together, and then found the number on our rainbow. We made sure to use different colors for each number so when it was all done it looked just like a rainbow! We are becoming quite the mathematicians and feel very confident with our adding skills!
